Larry became interested in tattooing at
an early age & started tattooing himself
at the age of 13. "I did some crazy stuff
when I was younger and got to spend a few
years in a home for boys. This is where
I learned the bare bones of the craft. I
made machines out of pens and stereo motors
with a guitar string for a needle. I proceeded
to "teach" myself how to tattoo. When I
look back on it, I'm mortified by the whole
thing."
So, not having an actual apprenticeship,
Larry taught himself tattooing and has done
artwork in one form or another since childhood.
He has met some wonderful artist whom have
become great friends & has had the great
opportunity to learn from them over the
years. "I will always be learning in this
business. I don't care how long someone
has been tattooing, or how well known they
are, how many awards they have won, you
can always learn new ways in this industry.
After working in several studios & going
into a partnership with another (that turned
bad), Larry became very dissatisfied with
the environment of most studios (a "get
em in, get em out" attitude), so Larry decided
to open Native Arts Tat2. With a goal to
provide customers with quality Tattoos &
Piercings in a comfortable, professional
& SAFE atmosphere.
"As far as I am concerned, an artist attitude
is 50% of the business. People are coming
to you wanting something permanent placed
on their body. They are most likely already
nervous, and when you (the artist) have
a bad or cocky attitude, it makes for a
bad environment and they will not feel comfortable.
I like my customers to feel comfortable
and to be able to relax as much as possible."
Being of Ojibwa & Western Shoshone
heritage & from the U.S., Larry also
creates Plains Indian reproduction artwork
(traditional beadwork) for galleries and
museums throughout North America and Europe.
Larry is an Award winning artist &
does ALL styles of work, but specializes
in Portraits, Black & Grey, Photo Realism
and Cover-ups.
